Science Weekly: Visualizing Migration due to Climate Change

Dan Majka, part of The Nature Conservancy’s North America Region science team, has created a series of interactive maps that show how species in the Western Hemisphere will adapt to climate change through migration.

This combination of rapidly evolving mapping technology allows scientists and the public to see more dramatically how climate change will affect wildlife, and alter our interactions with species as they attempt to survive. Northern migration is a common theme, as many animals cannot withstand the increasing temperatures of climate change. Fragmented habitats and human development are only some of the threats that species will face as they are forced to move to new locations.
